Young Holt Unlimited - Plays Super Fly
COLORED VINYL - Early ‘70s Blaxploitation cash-in albums are beloved in the DJ/cratedigger community, but Young-Holt Unlimited’s Plays Super Fly is a cut above the average kitsch-fest – mostly. Whereas these types of albums were generally churned out by budget labels employing session musicians to fuel the demand created by Curtis Mayfield, Isaac Hayes and the rest, Young-Holt Unlimited had impeccable jazz-funk credentials. Eldee Young and Isaac “Red” Holt had been Ramsey Lewis’ rhythm section throughout the ‘60s and scored their own hit in 1968 with the instantly recognizable and much-sampled “Soulful Strut.”
